Canine Hero: Dog Barking Saves Family From Gas Leak
On the afternoon of Feb. 7th, officers in the Tuckahoe Police Department got a phone call about an unleashed barking dog on Fairview Avenue. Officials firstly considered this doggy named Sadie a bad girl for uncontrolled barking. When they returned Sadie home, however, they knew they probably had misunderstood this canine hero.
Sadie, an 11-year-old pit bull, live with her family in Tuckahoe, New York. When police officials got this “naughty” dog home, they noticed that the sliding door to the backyard was left open. They approached and found a strong smell of gas leaking from an open window of the basement. They immediately told this to Sadie’s owner who was staying at home with her 4-year-old daughter.
“Did Sadie sense danger? Did she smell the gas in the house, and force her way outside to the street to draw attention?” the police department wrote on the Facebook, “Sadie – Great work sniffing out danger and getting help! If we are ever in need of a K9, we will put you at the top of our list!”
Sadie’s owner, Serena Costello, was also amazed by her furry baby.
“It’s just so out of character for her to do,” Costello said, “But she is hero and saved our lives!”
